Settings - a guided tour

What lives behind every tab in Settings, what you can change there, and where to go for the deeper how-to.

For (management)OwnersPractice Managers

Click the gear icon in the main menu. Tabs run down the left, grouped under Your account, Clinic, Team & access, Scheduling, Data & compliance and Subscription & system.

Most settings save themselves the moment you click away - there's no big Save button to hunt for. A handful of pop-up dialogs (adding an appointment type, say) do have one.

Every tab

"Management" below means a Practice Manager or the clinic's owner. It doesn't mean vets - see what each role gets by default.

Clinic Settings, field by field

These appear on invoices, estimates and emails, so they're worth getting right.

  • Practice details - name, address, phone, email, ABN.
  • Legal name - your registered entity ("… Pty Ltd"), only if it differs from your trading name. It appears on letterheads beside your ABN. Leave blank if they're the same.
  • Tax & GST - switch on GST Registered and your default tax rate appears (usually 10%). A registered practice that hasn't entered an ABN, or whose ABN doesn't check out, gets a reminder at the bottom of this section and a bar across the top of every page, because your ABN has to appear on every tax invoice you issue. See Registering for GST below.
  • Fees - Default dispensing fee and Default injection fee, both in dollars, both 0 for none. Injection starts at 0, so you opt in. These are only defaults - individual catalogue items can override them.
  • Inventory - Track stock by default makes new catalogue products start with tracking on. Off by default.
  • Rate loading - charge more for weekends, public holidays and after-hours. Off until you set it up: full guide.
  • Default calendar column - where a new appointment lands when someone books without clicking a slot first. "No default" leaves it blank.

Walk-throughs

Gotchas

  • Switching GST on makes the tax rate appear. That's intended - it stays hidden until you say you're registered.
  • Marking an item GST-free while you're not registered doesn't break anything. Nothing changes on an invoice, because your tax rate is zero. It's worth tidying up anyway, so it doesn't go live the day you register.
  • Switching GST on doesn't change your catalogue prices. The number you typed stays the number that's stored. Your prices already include GST, so registering changes who gets a share of them, not what a client pays. See Registering for GST.
  • There is no longer a pricing mode. Older guides described a tax-inclusive / tax-exclusive setting. It was removed: prices always include GST. If you want to type prices ex-GST, use Prices entered as in the catalogue, which changes what you type and never what a client pays.
  • "Change password" signs you out. It takes you to Wattle's secure password page, which requires it. Save unfinished work first.
  • The ABN bar won't go away when you dismiss it, because you can't. It isn't a notification. It's showing you that this practice is registered for GST with no usable ABN on file, so every tax invoice it issues is missing something it's required to have. Fix the ABN and the bar goes on its own. Only people who can open Clinic Settings ever see it.
  • A tab that loads then bounces you home is management-only - Branding, Email, Team, Roles & Permissions, Import & Export and the Audit Log all do this. Including for vets, who don't hold those abilities by default. You haven't broken anything.
  • A custom signature won't update when your clinic details change. Edit it by hand or Revert to auto.
  • Integrations showing nothing but "More coming soon" is the normal state, not a page failing to load. See Integrations for why there is deliberately no accounting connection.
