How to Read This Guide

How this handbook is structured, the two reading layers, the symbols you'll meet, and why you can't break anything.

This is the friendly handbook for everyone who uses Wattle Clinic at your practice — vets, nurses, and front-desk staff alike. It shows you how to get things done, one step at a time, with no assumed know-how.

Take your time. You don't need to read this guide from cover to cover, and you don't need to remember it all. It's here whenever you get stuck — come back to it as often as you like.

You can't break anything

First, the reassuring bit. Nothing in this guide will break the app, and neither will you. Wattle Clinic is built to be safe to explore:

  • Most actions can be undone, and you'll usually get a clear "are you sure?" prompt before anything important happens.
  • Clicking around to see what a button does is completely fine. Looking is harmless.
  • If you ever change your mind partway through a task, you can almost always close the window or press Cancel and walk away — nothing is saved until you say so.

So poke around. The worst that usually happens is you close something and start again.

Two ways to read every page

People come to this guide with very different levels of confidence, so most pages are written in two layers. Pick whichever suits you — or mix and match.

1. The full step-by-step (for anyone new)

The main text walks you through each task one small action at a time. Plain words, short steps, nothing skipped. If you're new to the app, or just like to be sure, follow these and you'll be fine. This is the default — you never have to do anything special to use it.

2. The ⚡ Quick version (for confident users)

When there's a faster route for people who already know their way around, you'll see a short box like this:

Quick version — A one- or two-line shortcut for people in a hurry.

If that box looks like gibberish, ignore it completely and read the full steps below it instead. You'll get to exactly the same place. The Quick version never contains anything you need — it's just a shortcut for the confident.

Soft role tags

Many tasks start with a small hint like this:

Usually: front desk

That's just a gentle note about whose job this tends to be at a typical clinic. It is not a rule. If you're a nurse doing a front-desk task, or a vet booking an appointment, go right ahead. The tag is there to help you find what's relevant to your day, nothing more.

A few symbols you'll meet

Wattle Clinic uses a small set of icons on its buttons and menus. These are the actual icons — shown here exactly as they appear in the app — so they're familiar when you spot them on screen:

SymbolWhat it means
A "more actions" menu. Click the three dots to see extra options for that row or card.
Edit. Opens something so you can change it.
A notification or alert — the app is letting you know about something.
Settings. Where you adjust how things work.

For the full picture, see the Buttons & symbols cheat sheet.

Two marks that belong to this guide

These two appear on the page of this guide — not on any button in the app:

  • ⚡ Quick version — the skippable shortcut box for confident users, described above.
  • — marks the recommended option when a task can be done more than one way.

If a button is missing

Sometimes you'll read about a button or screen and not see it on your own account. That's usually normal:

  • Permissions. Some actions are limited to certain staff. If you can't see something this guide describes, your account may simply not have permission — ask whoever set up your clinic.
  • Optional features. A few parts of Wattle are switched on per clinic. If a whole feature is missing, your practice may not use it. Pages for those features say so right at the top.

Ready when you are

That's everything you need to read this guide comfortably. Start wherever your work takes you, lean on the full steps when you want them, and skip the ⚡ boxes when you don't. If a word ever puzzles you, the Glossary explains the terms in plain language, and How the app talks to you covers the little messages and prompts you'll see along the way.

Welcome aboard.
